Douglas Smith Begins First Term in State Senate

On Wednesday, December 6, the 123rd Legislature officially began, when Governor John Baldacci swore all Maine State Senators and Representatives into office.  Among those who assumed office that day was Republican Senator Douglas Smith.

 

Representing District #27, Smith, of Dover-Foxcroft, serves the people of Abbot, Atkinson, Beaver Cove, Blanchard Twp., Bowerbank, Brownville, Dover-Foxcroft, Greenville, Guilford, Kingsbury Plantation, Lake View Plantation, Medford, Milo, Monson, T1- R9, Trout Brook Twp., Nesowadnehunk Twp., Mount Katahdin Twp., Rainbow Twp., Frenchtown Twp., Shawtown Twp., Bowdoin College Grant, Elliottsville Twp., Katahdin Iron Works Twp., Barnard Twp., Williamsburg Twp., Big Moose Twp., Little Moose Twp., Lily Bay Twp., Eagle Lake Twp., Soper Mountain Twp., Chesuncook Twp., Northeast Carry Twp., Lobster Twp., Days Academy Grant Twp., East Middlesex Canal Grant, Spencer Bay Twp., Orneville Twp., Parkman, Sangerville, Sebec, Shirley, Wellington and Willimantic in Piscataquis County, Chester, East Millinocket, Medway, Millinocket, Mount Chase, Herseytown Twp. a/k/a T2-R6, Grindstone Twp., Soldiertown Twp. a/k/a T2-R7, Indian Purchase Twp. 3 & 4, Long A Twp., T6-R8, Veazie Gore, Hopkins Academy Grant, Mattamiscontis Twp., Patten, Seboeis Plantation, Stacyville and Woodville in Penobscot County, and Cambridge, Harmony, Hartland, Palmyra, Ripley and St. Albans in Somerset County.

 

Smith, a former State Representative who is beginning his first term in the State Senate, defeated Democrat challenger Sharon Libby Jones on Election Day.  His victory helped the Republicans increase their margin in the Senate.  With 17 seats, Republicans are poised to work alongside the Democrats to advance a truly bipartisan agenda for the State of Maine. 

 

“I am truly honored that the people of District #27 have re-elected me to represent them in the Senate,” Smith said.  “I look forward to continue working for my constituents, and encourage them to come to me with any questions or concerns they may have.  The opportunity to give back to my community, and work for the changes that our state needs is one I will never take for granted.”
