Senator Roger Sherman to Serve on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry & Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committees

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DECEMBER 28, 2006

Augusta – Senator Roger Sherman of Houlton has been assigned to the Joint Standing Legislative Committees on Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, & Criminal Justice and Public Safety for the 123rd Legislature.  Representing District 34, which includes Southern and Central Aroostook County, including Fort Fairfield, Houlton and Presque Isle, Sherman will add these two committee assignments to his list of legislative duties.

Among other issues, the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry committee has jurisdiction over the Maine Department of Agriculture, food safety, farmland preservation, and the Maine Land Use Regulation Committee.

As a member of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee, Senator Sherman will be closely involved with any policy proposals relating to Maine’s legal code, law enforcement, victim’s rights, county jails, habitual offenders, and the Maine Emergency Management Agency.

Senator Sherman, a former House member and a retired teacher and farmer, will draw from his experience, both in the private sector and in public service, to be a vocal and effective member of each of these committees.

“I’m excited to get started with my committee responsibilities.  I was elected by the people of District 34 to represent them in Augusta, but serving as a State Senator also involves working for the good of all of Maine’s people, and committee assignments are just one of the ways we must fulfill that obligation,” the Senator said.  “I will be a member of two very important, and very different, committees, and I welcome the hard work and brain power it will take to be a successful committee-member.”

Senator Sherman can be reached by calling the Senate Republican office at 287-1505, or by calling 532-7073, or e-mailing rsherm_2000@yahoo.com.
