Senator Sherman Meets with Premier of New Brunswick
For Immediate Release
February 12, 2008
Augusta – Senator
Roger Sherman (R-Aroostook) joined several other boarder Senators at the
invitation of Governor Baldacci to meet with the Premier of New Brunswick. The meeting will take place following the
Premier’s speech to a joint session of the legislature.
Senator Sherman said, “This is a great opportunity to
discuss with the head of the Province
of New Brunswick
strengthening our relationship. I intend
to speak to issues of trade, energy, and boarder crossing. It will also be important to discuss the
advantages of a Canadian Ombudsman to act as a liaison between New Brunswick and Maine. The issues of trade, energy, and boarders are
important and require constant attention something that Governor Baldacci by
virtue of his job cannot do.”
Premier Shawn Graham has held office since 2006 and is the
31 Premier of New Brunswick, He is focused on making New Brunswick
an energy leader and has campaigned as bringing self sufficiency to New Brunswick.
“I hope that the Premier will be open to new ways of dealing
with Maine. New
Brunswick is our neighbor and it is time to recognize
the great potential that exists between our state and his province. To turn that potential in to opportunity we
need to have frank discussions about trade, energy, and boarder issues to
ensure that both Maine and New Brunswick have the opportunity to grow.”
