Roger Sherman Begins First Term in State Senate

On Wednesday, December 6, the 123^rd Legislature officially began, when Governor John Baldacci swore all Maine State Senators and Representatives into office. Among those who assumed office that day was Republican Senator Roger Sherman.

Representing District #34, Sherman, of Houlton, Amity, Ashland, Bancroft, Blaine, Bridgewater, Cary Plantation, Squapan Twp., St. Croix Twp., Webbertown Twp., Dudley Twp., Cox Patent, E Plantation – E R-2, Chapman, Crystal, Dyer Brook, Easton, Fort Fairfield, Glenwood Plantation, Hammond, Haynesville, Hersey, Hodgdon, Houlton, Island Falls, Linneus, Littleton, Ludlow, Macwahoc Plantation, Mars Hill, Masardis, Merrill, Monticello, Moro Plantation, New Limerick, Oakfield, Orient, Oxbow Plantation, Presque Isle, Reed Plantation, Sherman, Smyrna, Benedicta Twp., Molunkus Twp., Silver Ridge Twp., Forkstown Twp., Upper Molunkus Twp., N. Yarmouth Academy Grant Twp., Westfield and Weston in Aroostook County.

Sherman, a former State Representative who is beginning his first term in the State Senate, defeated Democrat challenger J. Chipman Beckwith on Election Day. His victory helped the Republicans increase their margin in the Senate. With 17 seats, Republicans are poised to work alongside the Democrats to advance a truly bipartisan agenda for the State of Maine.

“I am truly honored that the people of District #34 have re-elected me to represent them in the Senate,” Sherman said. “I look forward to continue working for my constituents, and encourage them to come to me with any questions or concerns they may have. The opportunity to give back to my community, and work for the changes that our state needs is one I will never take for granted.”
