Senate Republicans Launch Communications Effort to Inform Public, Increase Transparency

AUGUSTA – Recognizing the tremendous need for transparency in state government, the Senate Republican caucus has launched a new communications outreach program designed to keep the people of Maine’s communities informed of news and information from the Legislature.

The Senate Republican caucus, as part of their outreach program, has created a new legislative website.  Each Senator has their own webpage within the site with the Senator’s biography and contact information easily accessible.  Additional links on each Senator’s page bring visitors to a map of the district that Senator represents, as well as a list of all bills that Senator has submitted for legislative consideration.

Senator Republican Leader Carol Weston, of Montville, explained the motivation behind creating a new, hassle-free website.  “We don’t believe Mainers should have to struggle to find the best ways to contact their Senator, or access a list of their bills,” she said.  “This is about convenience, and providing our constituents with an easy way to engage their Senators.”

The Senate Republican website, which can be accessed at www.maine.gov/legis/senate_gop, also contains press releases from the Senate Republican caucus, a link to watch Senate Chamber proceedings online, and convenient links to sign up for property tax rebates, file taxes electronically and renew drivers licenses online, for example.  Mainers can also sign up for regular e-mail updates from the Senate Republican caucus as well as updates from their individual Senators.

“We take our responsibilities as legislators very seriously, and one of those responsibilities is to keep the people of Maine informed of the work we are doing to improve this state,” she said.  “An innovative and efficient way to keep Mainers involved in State government, and the Senate Republicans hope our redesigned communications and outreach efforts will provide the transparency and accountability that we believe Mainers deserve.”
