Senator Richard Rosen Announces

College Goal Sunday Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JANUARY 12, 2007

AUGUSTA – Senator Richard Rosen of Hancock County today reminded all students seeking financial aid for college of the importance of filing the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) soon, and also invited all Maine students and families to attend College Goal Sunday on January 28, at 2:00 p.m. for assistance in completing the form.

College Goal Sunday is a statewide volunteer program coordinated by the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) that provides free information and assistance to students and families who are applying for financial aid for post secondary education.  The workshop also provides assistance to college bound students preparing their FAFSA, the document required to receive all state and federal college financing.

FAME is hosting College Goal Sunday, a free financial aid workshop, at multiple locations throughout the state, and Senator Rosen would like to encourage all college bound residents and their families to visit the DownEast Family YMCA in Ellsworth or the Donald P, Corbett Business Building at the University of Maine at Orono to have all the questions answered.

At each site, FAME will provide coaching staff to walk individuals through the application line-by-line and to answer questions regarding state and federal financial aid programs.  All attendees should bring copies of their most recent tax information.

Further information about College Goal Sunday is also available at www.collegegoalsundaymaine.com, or by calling FAME at 1-800-228-3734 or e-mailing them at education@famemaine.com.

Senator Rosen, the Assistant Senate Republican Leader, represents District 31, which includes parts of Hancock and Penobscot Counties.  He can be reached in Augusta by calling 287-1505, in Bucksport at 469-3779 or by e-mail at rrosen113@aol.com.
