Senator Debra Plowman to Serve on the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JANUARY 16, 2007

Augusta – Senator Debra Plowman of Hampden has been assigned to the Joint Standing Legislative committee on Legal and Veterans Affairs.  Representing District 33, which includes Carmel, Charleston, Corinna, Corinth, Dexter, Dixmont, Etna, Exeter, Garland, Glenburn, Hampden, Kenduskeag, Levant, Newburgh, Newport, Plymouth and Stetson, Plowman will add this committee assignment to her list of legislative duties.

As a member of the Legal and Veterans Affairs committee, Senator Plowman will be closely involved in all policy proposals that relate to, among other things, claims against the State, gambling, election laws, governmental ethics, veterans’ laws and Veterans and Emergency Management Services.

“I’m excited to get started on my committee responsibilities.  I was elected by the people of District 33 to represent them in Augusta, but serving as a State Senator also involves working for the good of all Maine people, and committee assignments are just one of the ways to fulfill that obligation,” Senator Plowman said.

With casino proposals, Clean Election reforms, potential initiatives and referenda being proposed, and a sincere concern for the State’s veterans among all Mainers, the Legal and Veterans Affairs committee will likely be a busy committee throughout the 123rd Legislature.

“This committee deals with many of the topics that Mainers are most concerned about, and some of them are controversial and potentially divisive,” Senator Plowman said.  It is my responsibility as a member of the Legal and Veterans Affairs committee, and my priority as a Senator, to make sure that any policy proposals are in the best interests of the people of Maine.  A great deal of analysis and attention is required to determine how effective a proposal will be, and what those effects will be on all parties involved.  I will not take this responsibility lightly.”

Senator Plowman can be reached in Augusta at 287-1505, in Hampden at 862-4506, or by e-mail at debraplowman@cs.com.
