Senator Earle McCormick Announces

College Goal Sunday Program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JANUARY 16, 2007

AUGUSTA – Senator Earle McCormick of Kennebec County, today, reminded all students seeking financial aid for college of the importance of filing the 2007-2008 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) soon, and also invited all Maine students and families to attend College Goal Sunday on January 28, at 2:00 p.m. for assistance in completing the form.

College Goal Sunday is a statewide volunteer program coordinated by the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) that provides free information and assistance to students and families who are applying for financial aid for post secondary education.  The workshop also provides assistance to college bound students preparing their FAFSA, the document required to receive all state and federal college financing.

FAME is hosting College Goal Sunday, a free financial aid workshop, at multiple locations throughout the state, and Senator McCormick would like to encourage all college bound residents and their families to visit Jewett Hall at the University of Maine in Augusta to have all their questions answered.

At each site, FAME will provide coaching staff to walk individuals through the application line-by-line and to answer questions regarding state and federal financial aid programs.  All attendees should bring copies of their most recent tax information.

Further information about College Goal Sunday is also available at www.collegegoalsundaymaine.com, or by calling FAME at 1-800-228-3734 or e-mailing them at education@famemaine.com.
