Senator Dave Hastings Recognizes Dr. Rebecca Chargrasulis as Legislature’s Doctor of the Day

AUGUSTA – On Thursday, February 1, Senator Dave Hastings, of Fryeburg, recognized Dr. Rebecca Chargrasulis, MD on the floor of the Senate. Dr. Chargrasulis volunteered to serve as the Legislature’s doctor of the day.

Each day of legislative session, a doctor from around the State is asked to volunteer time at the State House and provide basic treatment to any legislators requiring medical attention. In emergency situations, doctors of the day are responsible for stabilizing patients until ambulances arrive. These doctors are invited to volunteer through arrangements made with the Maine Medical Association, who identifies their members interested in serving this role.

To show their appreciation, legislators recognize the doctor of the day at the beginning of their respective chamber’s session. Dr. Chargrasulis, Director of Emergency Medicine at Stepehens Memorial Hospital in Norway, was recognized as February 1’s doctor of the day on the Senate floor.

Sen. Hastings welcomed the opportunity to point out Dr. Chargrasulis’ commitment to her patients throughout the Norway region, and her selflessness in serving an important role at the State House. “The dedication that Dr. Chargrasulis has shown her patients, and the health care profession, is truly admirable,” he said. “It is no small task to run the Emergency Medicine department of a hospital, but she has done so with the leadership and compassion that is necessary for success. I congratulate the doctor on an accomplished career, thank her for volunteering her time at the State House today, and wish her the best of luck as she continues to serve her community.”
