Senator Walter Gooley to Serve on the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JANUARY 2, 2007

Augusta – Senator Walter Gooley of Farmington has been assigned to the Joint Standing Legislative committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.  Representing District 18, which includes most of Franklin County and parts of Somerset and Kennebec counties, Gooley will add this committee assignment to his legislative duties.

As a member of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife committee, Gooley will be closely involved in all policy proposals that relate to, among other things, hunting, fishing, fisheries and wildlife research, recreational and hunter safety, licensing, and boat safety registration.

“I’m excited to get started on my committee responsibilities.  I was elected by the people of District 18 to represent them in Augusta, but serving as a State Senator also involves working for the good of all Maine people, and committee assignments are just one of the ways to fulfill that obligation,” Senator Gooley said.

Maine’s outdoor sporting culture, including hunting, fishing and boating, are a vital component of the Maine economy, and provide a source of employment for Mainers.  Any policy proposals that fall under the jurisdiction of the Inland Fisheries and Wildlife committee must be considered not only based on their recreational components, but on their economic impact as well.

“With Maine’s economy floundering, it is important to carefully consider any laws that may impact the economic sectors in Maine that are not weak or vulnerable,” Gooley said.  The economic strength of our sporting and recreation industries must be maintained, and I will make it my priority on this committee to do just that.”

Senator Gooley can be reached by calling the Senate Republican office at 287-1505, or by calling 778-2368, or e-mailing wgooley@gqi.net.
