MARCH 13, 2007

AUGUSTA – Senator Dana Dow, of Waldoboro, has been appointed to the American Legislative Exchange Council’s Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force.  He and Senator Richard Rosen, of Bucksport, will serve as the Maine delegation on the Task Force, which includes legislators and private sector representatives from all over the country.

As a member of this Task Force, Sen. Dow will play a major role in developing policy ideas that will promote economic freedom, private sector competition, higher rates of employment and prosperity from the national down to the local level.  Additionally, the Task Force seeks to enhance innovation and efficiencies in national and state economies, and reduce regulations that hamper economic development.

Specific areas the Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force address include workers’ compensation reform, labor deregulation, and insurance and financial services policies.  The Task Force develops model legislation to facilitate the implementation of these policies in the states and educates other American Legislative Exchange Council members through Task Force meetings, issue briefings, and special workshops throughout the country.

Sen. Dow is looking forward to working with the rest of the members on the Commerce, Insurance and Economic Development Task Force.  “I think the work the Task Force does is of tremendous value,” he said.  “There is a great opportunity here for legislators from all over the country to work with one another to develop proposals that will create robust economies throughout the United States.”

Sen. Dow represents District 20, which includes parts of Lincoln, Knox and Kennebec Counties.  He can be reached in Augusta at 287-1505, in Waldoboro at 832-4658, or by e-mail at danadow@adelphia.net.
