Senator Dana Dow Appointed to the

The Maine Food Policy
Council, created in 1983, is comprised of 11 members. These members include legislators, state
agency employees, public consumers, representatives of the
Sen. Dow will serve a three
year term on the council, which may meet up to four times annually. As a council member, he will aid in the
development of a food policy for the State that ensures the availability of an
adequate supply of safe, wholesome and nutritious food for Mainers. He will also take an active role in
developing a strategic plan for implementation of the state food policy, which
will include benchmarks and criteria for measuring progress in food policy
objectives.
The council will also be
responsible for submitting a biennial report on its activities. The report includes an update on the
strategic plan created by the council, the progress made in achieving the goals
of the council, and a description of actions necessary to implement the council’s
recommendations.
Sen. Dow was pleased with his
appointment to the Maine Food Policy Council.
“I look forward to taking an active role on this council,” he said. “I believe my varied background, as a
teacher, legislator and business owner, will provide me with a useful
perspective on the policies that surround our State’s food quality and supply.”
